So you have a new Joomla site--how do you get in to edit it? What can you do?

Your developer has most likely granted access to you so that you can get in to the backend interface to add articles and menu items.

To get to the administrative interface, go to your Joomla site, then append /administrator to the url.

Most Joomla administrators will be concerned primarily with the "Menus" and "Content" menu items in the top menu bar.

A Joomla article contains text content for your website. A single Joomla page typically contains one article or multiple articles.

Articles typically contain text and images for your website.

Click on Content | Article Manager.

The default view of the article manager is the most recent 20 articles that have been posted on the site. You can go to the bottom of the screen to change the number of articles listed. Or better, you could display only the articles you are currently concerned with by filtering the display. At the top of the list, you could filter by section, category, author and state.

If you have been granted administrative access and if your Joomla site is configured to allow you to login from the front end, you could edit some articles from your website itself rather than the administrative backend.

From the Joomla administrative interface, go to Content | Article Manager. Click on the "New" icon at the top of the interface.

From the Article Manager editor, you can specify use of an image that's already been added via Media Manager, upload a new image to the Media Manager, or specify a custom coded image location via the html view in your editor (if you are comfortable editing html).

Use the Article Manager to re-order Joomla articles, and edit the menu item associated with a particular page to make the page conform to a set order.

Joomla pages most often correspond to Joomla menu items. To add a new page, you need to define it as a menu item. You could then associate that menu item with a single article or a blog-like listing of articles that fall under a section or category.

A section is a superset which includes articles from the categories defined in the section. So sections can contain categories, and categories must belong to sections.
